Congratulations to our U12's as winners of the Camberley A Festival. Very well done.

Another great day at the office for the players against very stiff opposition. Our captain Connor with the well deserved trophy.

Thank you to all the squads who took part in our festivals to make it such a success and thankfully the weather was very kind to us as well.

Sunday 10th October 2010 - Wimbledon Festival

A lovely bright day, better than last week. Congratulations to those players selected for this festival.

Andy was put under pressure from the start as quite a few players turned up after 9.30am. So much for the 1st game team selection!

Andy was very pleased with the squads performance, even though the first two games were lost against strong opposition. The second two games were 1-1 and 2-2 draws. Well done to all.

Sunday 3rd October 2010 - Cobham 'A' Festival

Has the year come around again so soon. Well done to all the players selected. Thanks to Tom for a few words on the results

1st Game vs Tonbridge Juddians (Lost by 1 Try)
- First Festival where the squad hit the pitch charged up and ready for action from the first whistle, unfortunately Jack took a serious knock to his knee and was unable to play further

2nd Game vs Dorking (Lost 2 Try's) - Squad played really well despite some of the ref's decisions

3rd Game vs Sutton & Epsom (Lost 1 Try) in the final second of the game
- Really strong performance

All in all a good day, the boys put their heart and soul into the games played - the weather was not as bad as was predicted BUT WET!

Sunday 27th September 2010 - Home training

This is the forth home training, and again the weather is fine. Andy has worked the players very hard with lots of game time ready for the three festivals coming up. Can you spot Andy as all the players seem to be growing!

The spirit in the squad is high in anticipation of the squad selections.

Anyway well done to all the players for their efforts during all the training sessions. Good luck in the festivals

Sunday 12th September 2010 - Home training

A Sunny September morning and again a very good turnout, a good turnout of parents as well - it will not last! Andy lead the training with a warm up to start. Again plenty of game time. Mark settling in as the squad ref. The play is looking good, with every player getting involved. Some slick passing. Did someone say 'Freddie pass to your right' - Oh well! Fraser with a good run at the end of the line, no one else to pass to, so kicked a great weighted pass down the line, nearly paid off for a try.

A couple of knocks today from all the effort, Dan squashing Matt on the try line - he should be back playing in one piece soon. Hope Wills finger is better. Great to hear so many are also playing in their new school rugby teams - you have learnt something then!

Wednesday 8th September 2010 - Training

Making the most of the lighter evenings before the winter hours and floodlights.kick in. Andy ran the session with a good helping of coaches to assist. Again plenty of game play with a renewed vigour in the players approach and some great game play. Good running through the channels be Charlie. Matt also sneaked a try through a small gap by the scrum. Looks like plenty of thinking out there, who said its all brawn and no brains! See you on Sunday.

Sunday 5th September 2010 - Home training

Great to be back for this 2010 - 2011 season. August again was quite wet, but certainly helped the look of the training pitch, green rather than that muddy brown (how long will it last?).

Andy has stepped into Tim’s shoes as our new Head Coach to lead use towards U13s. Tim is still with us to help out with the coaching. Welcome back to all our coaches, Andy, Tim, John, Adrian, Mark, Tom and welcome to help from Chris and Adrian S. Will Richard be missed as he starts again with the kinders?– is that his forth cycle?

Welcome back to all our players, some still on their hols. Andy starts with a warm up, the emphasis on playing game time. That will wear then out – do they know what they have let themselves in for.

Warm welcome to Ryan who has joined us today for his first taste of contact rugby.

Fun Day and Presentations - Sunday 25th April 2010

Who would believe that Saturday was a scorcher and this Sunday morning was rain (It did dry up thankfully) This is the last day of our season, with a fun day and presentations. Tim arriving early to set up and made sure the ice buckets were put out for the truck load of beers he was expecting! Today was going to be a great day of fun and drinking.

As the players arrived the coaches set up games for the morning fun.

Presentation time and Tim said a bit about the season, before congratulating each player in turn for all their efforts. Each player then came up to collect their engraved 2009/10 season medal (Who’s got the medal with my name on, in all the confusion!). Now for the three trophies

Most Improved Player was awarded to Henry (continually driving forward with no going back)

Coaches Player of the Year was awarded to Sam

Player’s Player was awarded to Sam. Tim also presented him with his club tie and a few words

Well done to Sam and Henry and well done to all the squad for their efforts this season.

BBQ to follow with a few drinks, is that all we are getting sausages and burgers!.

Thank you to Tom for the loan of the bouncy castle - that will keep the youngsters very busy.

Surrey A Festival - At Dorking RFC 18th April 2010.

Well done to all our players selected to represent our squad at this festival.

Great Weather and days rugby despite the team not scoring a try! Not for want of trying! (thanks for the quote Tom)

I'm not surprised from the picture it looks as if you are playing on a ploughed field.

Tim and Richard were extremely impressed with their efforts, with Richard expressing the quality of their rugby in the last game with flowing side to side passing. For him it was rugby at its best.

Well done, hopefully not too much sun burn. See you next week for the fun day

Surrey Development Festival at Camberley RFC

Sunday 11th April 2010

The weather was going to be fine for this Surrey Development festival at our Club

The u11s are playing on the training pitch, gosh who marked out the pitches ‘they look great’

Eight teams listed, a few had dropped out probably due to the timing of this festival and players not being available. Unlucky for them!

Two groups of four teams – 7 minutes each way with 2 minutes rest at half time.

Group 1 – Guildford, Cobham, Old Reigatians and Haselmere
Group 2 – Chobham, London Irish, Camberley and Wimbledon

Tim, Richard, Andy and Mark coaching today, starting with warm up and drills ready for our first game against Wimbledon.

Wimbledon 1 v Camberley 3

The squad looking keen for this first match. Jake starting us off with a good kick. The squad playing well. The mauling was brilliant with sustained pressure on Wimbledon being pushed back. Wimbledon had a break away with a good run wide and into the corner and over for a try 1-0, against the run of play it could be said. Camberley showed their mark with a try. A short while later the ball passed along the line into the safe hand of Myles about 15 metres out, driving through the channel towards their try line cutting inside, Wimbledon with players around him but could not get him down, Myles pushed forward and down for a great try 2 – 1 (Adrian did you see that!). All in all our play and positioning was good with another try to win our first match 3 –1. Very good start.

London Irish 3 v Camberley 2

This was a tough match, we played well again with our forward doing extremely well against their huge pack, and shows size doesn’t matter. At 2 –2 and near to the end of the second half all the pressure as in the London Irish half as we played towards their try line, finally the ball was turned over and London Irish took advantage of the positioning of our players and moved forward slow but sustained push lead to a try in the corner and the final whistle (what a surprise). Nine minutes I heard someone say, was it going to be one of those days again?
Very well played by Camberley.

Chobham 1 v Camberley 0

Chobham has looked very impressive during early games with slick passing and would give most A side a good run for their money. The game again started well for Camberley with us putting pressure on Chobham and restricting their flow (they didn’t look half the side from previous). Camberley were up on the Chobham try line but for some reason we couldn’t get the ball down. Chobham finally got a try and the score stayed at 1 – 0. Another good match played. The last two matches we lost by a try in each and we would finish third in our group.

Camberley 3 v Old Reigatians 0

Last match of the day for use, with another good start. Our forwards controlling the play.
Connor picking up the ball half way in our half and driving forward, tackled by Old Reigatians but he still pressed on, ending up well into their half before he passed the ball out, good passing along the line and over for a try. We controlled the game throughout but near the end Old Reigatians with a penalty 5 metres out, a line of their players facing a line of ours were looking to score. The whistle blew; we were out of the blocks first and up on them in a flash with grinding tackles. The maul was formed 12 boys on 12 boys as it slowly moved to the right all the way over to the right corners, finally the ball was dropped and Sam on to it in a flash kicking it out. Game over. Well done. Four very good matches.

Andy led the team talk at the end congratulating each player in turn whilst handing out the medals. Paul was getting into a bit of a mess as the medal ribbons knotted together, in your own time! Well done to all our players today

Camberley have been invited at short notice to enter the Reading Abbey 'A' squad Festival., so some of our squad are over there whilst the remainder are at home for some training. Welcome to a new player Ryan who turned up today - hope you enjoyed yourself. Thanks to Tim V for running the home session.

Yep was a good festival and the weather was excellent.

Played 5 Games :

1. Bracknell A's : Cam Lost 3-0
- Got off to a great start with forward ball all the way to Bracknell try line. Then the momentum slowed and we lost

2.Redingensians: Cam Lost 1-0

By the 3rd game Cam team were waking up and started playing Team Rugby rather than Individual Rugby.

3. Reading Abbey : Cam Drew 0-0
- Fantastic game of strong go forward and really strong defence.

4. Bracknell B's : Cam Won 7-0
- Real team work here with Forwards running with the ball with pace and scoring try's as well as the backs.

5. Reading : Cam Won 3-0
- Again, team rugby paid off.

Overall, Fantastic Rugby by the team today. Ball handling errors cost us some ground through knock forwards. Team deserved more today; Key to success going forward has to be everyone getting to Venue at least 45 mins before Festival starts so the team can get warmed up and focus on the job to be done on the day - Go Forward rugby, teamwork and Winning.

Sunday 21st March 2010 - Home training

The start of spring – A lovely morning at Camberley RFC.

A good turn out on this Sunny day. Tim was at the pitch early, who has the cones! Maybe they will arrive before 9.59am!!

Tim started with a warm up and running drills, the day was going to be full on with plenty of game play. Plenty of opportunities to stop the play to explain stuff to the players.

The players were divided into two teams on a full size u11’s pitch. Loads of good rugby with end to end play. Late into the match William took hold of the ball moving to his right being tracked by the opposing team, he darted back with a forward run towards the left wing, no tackles yet. William was no near to the try line when he cut back inside with two hefty tackles (ouch), but momentum took him over, the ball just about to touch the grass (mud!) as it slipped out of his hands and painfully fell away. A gasp from all. ‘He’s dropped it’. Brilliant solo effort nevertheless. Tim and Coaches very pleased with the days play.

Followed by a rendition of Happy Birthday lead by Ben, followed up by Andy's ‘How Old?’ Fortyyyyyyyyyyy were the resounding shouts. Adrian looked V embarrassed. Best you get your cash out for later.

Sunday 14th March 2010 - Home training

A beautiful sunny morning at Camberley for home training, a good number of 24 turning out on this Mothers Day. We should have been away at Chobham but unfortunately they could not host this fixture (great to be back training after all the poor weather recently).

Thanks to Andy, Mark, Tom and John for running the session, with a warm up and then training drills, concentrating on kicking. Certainly a sight with all our players kicking balls into the air at the same time – Who has the camera?

Good amount of time on games at the end. Both teams playing well. Matthew W rushing through a defensive line to score a try, no tackles there then! A brilliant moment during the match with a good kick up field into the in goal area, picked up with a hefty boot back to where it had just come from. This high ball drifting to the right, a couple of decent and kind bounces into the hands of Matthew J running forwards and towards the right wing. Good sprint along the wing passing half way, running at speed. The other team in pursuit. Matthew passing the ball to his left with a momentous swing into the hands of Myles S moving forwards through the gap in defence and over for a try. How easy was that! Maybe this style of play could rub of on England – they certainly need it!

Sunday 21st February 2010 - Redingensians RFC Festival

A trip to Redingensians RFC festival for the ‘A’ Squad today, torrential rain at Camberley if you fancy rugby and water polo combined. Arriving at Redingensians there was no rain, but the ground was very wet and muddy – should be fun!

1st Game : 1020 : Farnham 0 - Camberley 0
2nd Game : 1100 : Camberley 3 - Abbey 0 (Tries from William, Ben & George)
3rd Game : 1200 : Camberley 1 - Redingensians 0 (Try by Dan Davis)
4th Game : 1340 : Camberley 0 - Maidenhead 3
5th Game : 1500 : Camberley 0 - Bracknell 1 (Try scored in the last second of the game)

All played as a team today and were a great asset to Camberley RFC. Each game was differently executed but there was great deal of communication. Good Scrummaging from the forwards, defence from the backs, great kicking where required and massive spades of passion and the hunger to win. Great to see the drills and set pieces coming to fruition on the pitch. Whilst we took a few knocks and sustained some injuries the players kept going.

The breaks towards the end between games took a bit of a toll on the team BUT the last game against Bracknell was full on. Fantastic defence by the whole team and to concede a try in the last second of the game was by no way a reflection of the game that was played.

Overall, great passion and play from the team today, something that all the coaches and parents were really proud of. Well done Team.

A dry and cold day for home training on the training pitch. Tim and Andy arriving early to set up. The start of half term but still a good turnout of 23 players (good time to impress the coaches ready for selection to the Redingsians festival next week). Plenty of space to train today. Sunday 7th February 2010 - Home training at Kings

Should have been at Wimbledon RFC today, but their pitches are still waterlogged. Thank you to Tom H for organising a fixture of home at short notice, training at Kings International College.

Another cold and wet day, but another good turnout. Tim setting up for the session.

Later on the U10’s packed up early, allowing for the use of a larger pitch for the match at the end of our training session. The extra space allowed for some very good passing and recycling play. The final score being 3-3.

Sunday 31st January 2010 - Home Training and Coaches Presentation.

Good turn out today of 31 players on this very cold and frosty Sunday morning, the ground at Camberley was rock hard. Most had turned out in trainers for this light training session, not a good day for studs!

Tim set out the session early awaiting his band of merry coaches to discuss the training schedule ahead before the start of play at 10am. No contact rugby today.

The temperature stayed near freezing most of the morning with the sun coming out later, you could definitely feel the rise in temp. Out with the sunglasses from the glare of the white frosted ground!

The players didn’t have a moment to stand around with the running and passing exercises leading to two games of touch rugby to finish. Well done to you all.

Presentation of the Xmas Quiz prizes. Simon drew the first name out of the hat – Tim P, with the first prize of £15. Then Simon drew out the second name – Miles T. Did someone shout ‘Fix’? Well done to Tim, Miles and the other players who took part.

Now for the ‘main event’ the presentation to the coaches for all their efforts during the first part of this season. Thanks to all our parents for their contribution towards the ‘vintage’ bottles of port. Thomas was on hand to present the coaches with their bottles, Andy, Mark, John, Tim V and finally head coach Tim. Adrian’s bottle was collected on his behalf by his son. Thanks again.

Sunday 24th January 2010 - Home training

Great to be back for the second part of the season, it has been a while hasn’t it!.

The snow has finally gone, but still cold with the winter sun trying to shine through.

The training pitch looks a little worse for wear, after the older age groups have been churning it up during practice over the week – Thanks V much.

Welcome to three new players who joined us today Callum, Jack and Paddy.

Coaches arriving early to get the best bit of the training pitch! Well there is a very good chance you will get muddy today, if you are u11, u12 or u10.

Thanks to Andy, John, Mark, Tim and Tom for running the session today, a good number turned out of 31 players. After the warm up and skills session a match was played at the end. Both sides very good in defence. William had a good run but was finally nudged out by Tim just as he up to the try line. The reds wer in attack and finally the lines were broken by Max H who scored the only try on the match – Good effort all around.

Warm down by Andy and Mark. Sorry Andy who did you say won again !!.

A small gift for the players for their hard work during the first half of the season.

Sunday 10th January 2010 - Snow, Snow and more snow.

Camberley has seen about a foot of snow along with the rest of the country. As the days go by we are still digging ourselves out. Great times schools closed and much fun to be had in the snow.

The U11's have hung up their boots for the time being and gone into hibernation from Rugby -awaiting the great thaw, should be about May time!!.

Anyway hope the weather has not caused to many problems. See you all soon. Who knows when?.

Sunday 13th December 2009 - Home against Bracknell RFC

What a great sight it must have been for anyone watching play on the training pitch today.
Our U11’s were playing against Bracknell RFC, both squads having good numbers supported by a healthy entourage of coaches on both sides. Today was dry, makes a change from the rain but still quite cold. The sun coming through at times, unfortunately you didn’t notice any difference.

Great to see Bracknell RFC here again with us, it will be a very competitive day. Warm up first with two matches of mixed teams, all the teams working hard and tries scored by all the teams. A welcome site to see parent euphoria, as Joe and Liz jumping for joy when Thomas drove over for a try right by their feet – Superb moment for them. Should ask Daniel C what it was like to be ‘steamrollered today’ as he tried to make a tackle against a boy a little bigger than himself. Someone mentioned William didn’t touch the ball – what not using the wings again?

Welcome to two new players who have come along to join us today Rory and James. Hope you enjoyed your day with us.

End of the first games, good play throughout, now time for a rest bite before selection for the last games of the day.

Sunday 29th November 2009 - Away to Richmond RFC

What a morning, heavy rain during the night and very grey, wet and cold in Camberley this morning. The U11’s were still going to Richmond for the triangular with Richmond RFC and Reeds RFC. The U12’s already cancelled, can you believe we are out in this weather and a 9.30am start as well!. Arriving at Richmond RFC the pitches were very wet under foot, but at least it has stopped raining (this lasted for the next two hours, with a bit of sun as well – who would have thought)

Twenty five players turned out for Camberley U11’s, very well done. Tim and the coaches warming them up with some passing drills. This lead to a series of games. The A’s winning their first game 4 – 0 with a lot of cheer from the team. The B’s lost their first game with tries scored from deep, the game was even with our pack doing extremely well, winning most scrums. Let’s practice the tackling!.

The B’s went on to win their next match 2- 1 with a great amount of effort from all the squad (Great support from the sideline). Try from Stuart driving over and a good run by Matthew J for the second. Certainly the better team. Their last game was against London Scottish and you could see there were tired legs out on the pitch. Very even game apart from some good runs from deep by London Scottish that lead to tries. All in all very well done. A great effort by the pack in Stuart, Henry, James J and Miles. A memorable moment in the last game was Matthew J as the last player desperately trying to stop the opposition running in a try, leaping forward and grabbing the runner by the waist slowing the player up, for the remaining players to drive him out into touch. Matthew left lying in the mud after a great tackle (we knew you would get a dirty shirt at some point!)

Tim gathered all the players up at the end to congratulate them on their fantastic efforts today and the turnout of our players for this away fixture. Maybe next week we can order a bit of sunshine!.

Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 8th November 2009 - Home against Redingensians RFC

Half term has passed by, with some of the players needing to blow off a few Cob webs.
Welcome to Hal a new player to Camberley U11's.

Tim arriving early to set up for the fixture against Redingensians, our first fixture of this season against another club.

Welcome to Redingensians RFC who turned up with good numbers ready for the days rugby ahead. Starting with a warm up and then two mixed squad matches. Both our team doing very well with numerous tries scored. Hal was extremely pleased with himself for scoring his first try.

11am for two minutes silence for Remembrance.

Another warm up and now for the last part of the day, the B squad on the training pitch ready for a competitive match against Redingensians with Andy refereeing and Mark on the side to help out. The A squad moved over to pitch 2 for a bit more room, followed by the parents. Both matches were played at pace with many memorable moments for both our squads.

All in all a very successful day with Tim expressing his thanks to our visitors Redingensians RFC.
Good luck for your season ahead.

Camberley Festival 18th October 2009

Sunday 18th October – Camberley Festival.

The will be a very busy day for us at our Camberley ‘A’ and Development Festivals for the U11’s. Tim and the other coaches Andy, Richard, Adrian, John, Tim V and Mark helping the squads today. Congrats to all the players representing our U11 squad. The weather was certainly on our side. Great to see all the other squads at at our festivals as well

Ben, Blake, Daniel D, Daniel C, Fraser, Freddie, George, Henry, James C, Jack, Matthew W, Myles, Sam, Seb, Tim, William

Charlie A, Charlie, Clint, Connor, Daniel S, Greg, Jake, Jac, James H, James J, Matthew J, Max, Max P, Miles, Stuart, Thomas and Ed

The Development Squad, were slow out of the blocks but soon picked up their game to get into the plate final. This was against Drifters. The game was played at a very competitive pace, with Camberley making most of the play. Thomas excellent play controlling the game at the front and mauling very well, the rest of the team working well. This lead to a well worked Camberley try.

The game started again and Camberley playing well with a huge amount of effort from both sides. Drifters near to our try line, Camberley under pressure to clear the ball up field. A good kick, blocked by Drifters, unfortunately the ball was in our in goal area, a missed kick by a Camberley player and the ball was ‘oh no’ on the floor, both sets of players scrambling for the ball. Try to Drifters and a very good drop kick conversion.

Again Camberley working hard in this very close matched contest. Camberley in their half near to the half way line, under pressure from drifters, Camberley starting to move the ball along the line, the players a bit close together, one drifters player in the right spot, intercepted the pass on the run and through, our players giving chase but his momentum took him over.

From the restart Camberley pressurising Drifters all the time in their half. Camberley working well in the scrum. The young ref doing very well. The scrum was first turned 45 degrees and then collapsed. Camberley with a penalty, Charlie couldn’t get through. Final whistle. Shame for Camberley but a very entertaining game to watch. Very close.
Well done to all the players. Max P and Ed doing very well as our new players.

The ‘A’ Squad had done very well and won all their matches to the Cup final. Great to see Williams left foot in action. The final was Camberley V Sutton and Epsom

The game started at a very intense pace with good work from Camberley. They certainly looked to have the upper hand passing well. The ball into Georges hands and a darting run to the corner and over for a try. Well worked. William with the predicted conversion.

The game re started, the Sutton and Epson full back, with a great set of hand catching the ball and running forward. Camberley were well matched and contained Sutton’s play. Sutton pressing towards Camberley’s try line, plenty of hard work from both sides. A sustained push by Sutton squeezed then over. Try. A very well taken conversion as well. End of the first half and a moments rest for our players, who had worked well and hard in the first half.

Second half started at a very frenetic pace. Sutton appeared to have the upper hand, keeping possession. Camberley working hard but the ball would not drop into our hands. Sutton building with confidence and leading to another try. After all the good play and effort of the first half we were unfortunate to be 2-1 down. Re start and again Sutton gaining possession. Camberley were still working hard and every move covered. As the second half was nearing it conclusion Sutton gained possession from a penalty and the referee moving the play forward, Camberley were on the back foot moving back at pace, Sutton seizing on this moment to quickly move forward, up to out try line and over. 3-1. the score certainly didn’t reflect the game as a whole.
Final whistle. Well done to all the players.

Tim gathered all the players together and congratulated them on their efforts and presented each with a festival medal, with applause from the parents, Great to see.

A huge thank you to the coaches and all our parents for their help and support in making this a very successful day and I’m sure you will all agree, many memorable moments from all our players as well.

Fun Day and Presentations - Sunday 26th April 2009

Sunday 26th April 2009 – Fun day and Presentations

It looks like the weather will hold out, with a blue sky and the sun shining through on this Sunday morning at Camberley RFC. This is the last day of our season, with a fun day and presentation

Tim and the coaches organised an assort course type event with a scrim net to climb under, with the players split into teams. They certainly enjoyed that, followed by tug of war. Don’t ask the coaches how they got on.

Presentation, with Tim congratulating all the players on their efforts, with a precise of this season. Each player then came up to collect their 2008/09 season medal. Now for the three trophies

Most Improved Player was awarded to Tim
Coaches Player of the Year was awarded to Rupert (For the second year running)
Player’s Player was awarded to both Tim and Rupert.

Fraser the captain of the ‘A’ squad had an award and he presented this to Blake – Well done.

Well done to each of the players for all their efforts this season.

BBQ to follow with a few drinks. As the afternoon draws on the remaining players put the ice water to good use – Isn’t that right Richard!.

Surrey 'A' Festival - Sunday 19th April 2009

It was going to be a very busy day looking at the queues for the car parks, as so many were arriving for this huge event, the Surrey ‘A’ festival at Dorking RFC

Well done to the players selected to represent our U10s squad at this festival, Ben, Blake, Charlie A, Daniel D, Fraser, Freddie, George, Jack, Miles, Rupert, Sam, Sebastian, Tim and William.

There are 24 teams entered in this u10’s competition. Eight groups of 3 teams playing 12 minute games - 6 minutes each way on four pitches.

We were drawn against Old Reigatians and Reeds.

Camberley certainly had the better of Reeds during this match, with great energy and tackling throughout. Blake with the try to put Camberley 1 up. At the end of the second half Reeds squeezed over to finish the game 1-1

Against Old Reigatians, Camberley were not as organised as our opposition in the forward play. Old Reigatians ripped the ball well with quick passing along their lines. Camberley had their chances as well, but were beaten by a better side on the day.

Onto the next stage of this competition, Cup, Plate and Shield. We had a toss of a coin against Reeds, which Reeds won and they went through to the Plate. Camberley were into the Shield and our quarter final match was against Effingham & Leatherhead

Another well balanced game, Camberley went a try up in the first half with very good pushing in the maul near to their try line, the ball finally down right in the corner. The second half started with Camberley controlling the game, Effingham were not able to get through. The time was passing by but the game still continued. A penalty to Effingham about 10 metres out, we held them off, but another penalty was awarded to Effingham – about 8 metres out this time. Again very good defending and turnover ball, Camberley tried to move the ball quickly, a lunging tackle by Effingham about 5 metres out, and the ball was dropped, picked up by Effingham and over for a try. The Final whistle was blown. How long was that? The ref then declared last try wins. Work that one out! The players were clearly very upset by this, well done to Effingham.

Very well done to all the squad, today wasn’t going to be our day. Tim and the coaches have some very warm and encouraging words for the players. We shall move on - to the bar did I hear someone say!

Charlie - Hope your ear gets better - sorry what did you say!

A great outlook to the weather on arriving at Effingham and Leatherhead RFC for their 'A' festival. Words over the loud speaker, welcoming everyone to this festival and commenting on last years weather, for those who attended (something you wouldn’t forget in a hurry)

The are five teams in each group playing 12-minute games - 6 minutes each way.

Group 2 – Old Rutlishians, Old Reedonians, Richmond, Chobham, Effingham B

Camberley were fourth in the group and went onto the semi finals of The ‘School Selector’ Plate and were drawn against Richmond.

A special mention goes to Tim P and Matthew W who stepped up to the mark in joining the A squad today They did admirally during the highly charged and competitive matches – Hope you both enjoyed yourselves!.

The teams for this festival are in two groups playing 12-minute games - 6 minutes each way.

Group 1 – Camberley, Chipstead, Emanuel Lions and Old Reigatians (Cranleigh dropped out)

Group 2 – Haslemere, Guildford, Warlingham, Reeds, Kings.

Tim and the coaches were on hand to warm up the squad and had words of encouragement ready for the first game.

Camberley v Chipstead (2-3)

Chipstead to start. Camberley eager on the 7 metre line. Chipstead pass and player runs through, no tackle by Camberley and he is all the way up to our try line. Tackle and held up, Chipstead push forward and over –Try.

Re start for Camberley – Stuart with very good run into Chipstead half, pass to Jac, who passed to Thomas. Out into touch in the Chipstead Half. Ref awards line out to Camberley. Stuart throws into line, Thomas well caught. Good tackle by Chipstead. Thomas still with ball and pushing well. Out into touch – line out to Chipstead. Ball thrown in and caught by Thomas, passed to Stuart, tackle by Chipstead, turned and passed to Thomas. Thomas moving forward passes along the line to Jac, who passes to Daniel, and then Stuart. All the pressure was on Chipstead. Ball dropped, picked up by Chipstead good run, no tackles – through and try 2-0.

Camberley start. Good run by Daniel (as he had done in the previous matches) tackled and a ruck formed. Hands in by Chipstead. Scrum to Camberley. Stuart has taken a knock to the head – off and Tim on. Camberley ball into scrum and out, passing well, ball intercepted – Chipstead run through as Camberely out of position. 3-0 and the score certainly didn’t reflect the game.

Sunday 15th March 2009 - Home to Newbury RFC

A fantastic day, with the sun shining brightly - is Spring finally here!.

A home fixture against Newbury RFC. Tim organised the morning session, a warm up with all the players and then training in groups.

The games would be back to back. The Camberley A team playing Newbury A’s. This finishes 2- 1 with tries from Blake and Miles. The second game finished 2-1 with tries from Sebastian and Fraser – Well done.

The Camberley B team played against Newbury, which finished 3-0 to Newbury in the first game and 1- 0 in the second. Well done to all the teams for their hard work and effort.

Great to turn up tonight at Camberley RFC to see two of the main floodlights working. Should be quieter by the clubhouse. Richard, John and Mike ready for the training.

Warm up followed by some tackling. Richard strategically placing cones out for passing. In lines of four - they didn’t quite get it – back to the drawing board then!

A game at the end. Good work from all the players, with the main aim to keep the ball alive and moving. Certainly the way forward, ‘Look for the gap’

Sunday 8th March 2008 – Home training

A dry sunny Sunday morning, with a slight chill in the air. A good number of 26 players turned out today for the training with Tim, Andy, Richard, Adrian and John. Jo took the players for 10 minutes of warm up (or was it a bit longer!).

A few of the parents were also out, ready and willing in their neatly pressed tracksuits to assist the coaches – Thank you to Gordon, Tim V and Mike.

The training got underway, with a game at the end to finish. Looking forward to the festivals at Camberley and Effingham & Leatherhead.

The ground was soft from the downpour on Tuesday night. The main flood lighting is still not fixed. We found some space around the clubhouse to train along with all the other squads training tonight. Sunday 1st March 2009 - Home against Petersfield RFC

The weather is certainly much better than previous weeks and the pitches have also had a chance to recover. Pitch 2 today for the fixture against Petersfield RFC.

A good number turning out for both squads, with Tim, Andy, John coaching the players with the help of the Petersfield coaches. The first hour soon went by with the pitches set out for matches.

The ‘A’ started off well with a 1-0 win over their opponents. Blake with a very good run that lead to the try. In the dying seconds of the second half George was over for 2-0, but the ball slipped out of his hands and he went down over the try line. Myles had a run out with this team and certainly got stuck in.

The development team also did very well, all the hard work at the Redingensians Festival must have paid off. Win 5 –1. Well done also.

Each team played a further game and then a round up and thanks by Tim to all the players and coaches for their efforts today.

Redingensians Festival Sunday 22nd February 2009

Saturday was a bright sunny day. Are we finally passed the winter weather that has hampered rugby training over the past few months. Sunday morning certainly looked fine and promising for a great day of rugby.

Today was the Redingensians Festival for our u10s squad. Congratulations to those players chosen to represent our squad at this festival.

Daniel C, Henry, Jake, James C, James H, Matthew J, Matthew W, Max, Myles, Sebastian, Stuart, Thomas, Tim and Tristan.

Most have played together throughout the season and are developing well as a team.

On arriving at Redingensians RFC the pitches looked dry and firm ‘they weren’t like that two weeks ago’ said one of the Redingensians parents – probably under a foot of water like our pitches!.

This festival was not designated as an A, B or C festival and on arrival the teams who had entered this festival were
Abbey ‘A’ team
Bracknell ‘A’ team
Camberley ‘B’ team
Redingensians ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams.

The format for each game was 6 minutes each way.

Tim and Tim (helping out, the one with the shades!) started to warm up the players with a team talk to all the players ready for the first game against Redingensians ‘A’.

This game started well with Camberley working very hard in the contact zone, Myles put in a cracking tackle to stop a certain try, surprisingly this Redingensians player didn’t run at Myles again during the match. Camberley were trying their hardest with great amount of effort over the pitch, but the pressure of the opposition started to tell as they were always quickly onto us when we were in possession of the ball. The game was soon over, the players have performed very well, it was certainly a hard game out there against Redingensians ‘A’ team.

The next two matches were against Bracknell ‘A’ and Abbey ‘A’ teams. Hard going wasn’t it?
The spirit of the players was great throughout the first three matches and a credit to all the players especially those in the scrum.

The final match was against Redingensians ‘B’ and the players were still raring to go. Tim and Sebastian had both picked up injuries in earlier matches and called it a day – well done for all their effort.

This was certainly a more evenly matched game, with Camberley pressing forward and passing very well, Max was in the thick of it passing and running towards the Redingensians line. Matthew G, Jake, Max, Myles and Tristan were passing the ball well along the line and moving forward. All the pressure and effort paid off with Thomas driving over for a try. Well done.
Camberley had their tails up and were playing well, even thought they must have been tired from the earlier games. Camberley continued to pressure Redingensians in their own half. A quick break from the scrum on the half way line, a good run from Redingensians lead to a try in the far corner – not expected as this was against the run of play. End of the first half 1-1.
Team talk from Tim (which one you may ask?). The second half started well with Camberley applying the pressure again in the Redingensians half. Max with a great run along the touch line towards the try line, with the others giving chase, tackled and out into touch. Camberley looking good, Redingensians in possession in their own half and a good run along the touch line, leading to a try
1 - 2. The game started and again the same Redingensians player along the same touchline with a darting run at first, another try to Redingensians 3-1. This was certainly against the run of play with all Redingensians tries coming from long solo runs starting deep in their own half.

Camberley were still playing well. Again the pressure was on Redingensians to defend. Good drives from James C, Max and Thomas. Stuart was always in the thick of things with good tackles and moving forward. Good runs along the line by Matthew G and Jake, but still no way through. Redingensians were defending well. Will we get the try we deserve? Again another pass to Matthew G as he darted forward and over the try line 2-3. This was more like it a try from all the pressure put on the Redingensians defence. Could we get back to 3 –3. Re-start Camberley tackling well, not letting Redingensians push forward. Camberley now in possession and holding onto the ball, passing well. Into the Redingensians half yet again. Was it all too late, Matthew W with the ball, hard run towards the right corner, shrugging off tackles and over by the corner flag 3 –3 (what could have been with the pace of Tim and Sebastian?). Game over 3-3. This certainly shows the improvements of the team and the hard work they all gave. Very well done and a great performance to end our festival.

Sunday1st February Home to Cobham RFC

Another miserable cold day with Cobham RFC attending Camberley. Hopefully the weather will improve.

Whats all this white stuff? Snow - Fantastic.

Can you believe it - no school aswell - great. What will the parents do?

Wasn't expecting this, certainly caused a few problems across the UK, but it has to be said it brightened the place up. Hopefully you all enjoyed the snow, sledging, snowman and the cold!.

The snow didn't help with rugby training, our fixture against Old Ruts on Sunday 8th Feb was cancelled and the training at Camberley on 15th Feb was also off because of the pitch conditions.

Sunday 25th January 2009 - Home against Haselmere RFC

Rain on Friday, dry Saturday and heavy rain during the night. No cancellation message from the club, the ground must be ok!.

On arriving there were large pools of water and puddles everywhere. The U14s have already cancelled, what a great ideal, to late for us as Haselmere were on their way.

Moving from the training pitch to pitch 1 and finally to pitch 2, there’s must be a dry spot, I think not!.

‘I called the cancellation number six times’ I heard someone say – don’t worry most of us had the same thoughts as well!. It was going to be another wet and cold day for both the Camberley and Haselmere players.

Haselmere turned out with about twenty players, considering the conditions (must have better drainage over there).

Richard had prompted the move to the best possible bit of playing area and marked out ready for the fixture with Haselmere. George was running about through all the deep puddles – “my feet are wet” he said – What a surprise!.

Richard, Adrian, John and Alan were at hand, with the Haselmere coaches kept the players moving during the training. This lead to games after the warm up and passing drills. It all came to an end a little earlier so the players could get off home to warm up. Was that George throwing himself across the floor – mud caked to his shirt and tracksuit trousers. He stood there frozen to the spot “I’m cold” he said. You must be walking home!. Gordon any ideas?.

Sunday 18th January 2009 - Away at Guildford RFC for a triangular with the hosts and Wimbledon RFC

Guildford’s pitches were certainly dry considering the rain over this weekend, but still a chill in the air. This was a triangular with Guildford RFC and Wimbledon RFC. It all got started once you had parked up and found the u10s pitch allocation – well that’s another story in itself – isn’t that right Adrian!.

A quick warm up session with matches between the clubs. Very good turnout overall with 29 players from Camberley. Well the catering did well out of us to, with a good vantage point from the clubhouse overlooking some of the pitches – shame that we were playing somewhere in the far distance.

Both our teams had a very successful day running over numerous tries against the teams they played. Myles S was certainly very pleased with his performance ‘I scored two tries’ he said – Well done to you and all the players.

Tim, Andy, Richard (He’s the one with his arm in a sling, maybe a little less waving at the ref today! ), Adrian, John and Alan, were all pleased with the players performances - keep up the good work – just like being back at school!

John - did someone mention haircut!. Anyway hope it didn’t take to long getting away from Guildford RFC!.

Training Wednesday 14th January 2009

Great to see an improvement in the weather, the ground had finally softened. Wednesday's training was on tonight. A good number turned out of 15 players. Richard, John and Adrian were there starting with a warm up, and leading onto passing and overlap drills.

Richard at the helm, the obligatory running to the tree for any misdemeanour or digression (not listening springs to mind!). ‘Run around the tree keeping it to your RIGHT’. Well that brought a few chuckles from the coaches as the players were in disarray. Again ‘around the rugby posts, keeping the rugby post to your RIGHT’. Must be the lemming effect. Sam was the only one to pass the test.

Well you may ask, Left, Right is there some confusion!. Well lets look back to Sunday, when at the start of training the players warmed up running zig-zags towards Tim, who was facing them. The command of ‘Right’ holding out his right arm and the players moved in that direction (in fact it was to their left), ‘Left’ holding out his left arm (in fact to the players right). I’m sure it will confuse the opposition at some point. Well we do have twenty weeks left to get it right!. Sorry for the pun.

Finishing off with a game, having an ideal number of players, each one getting involved, good work and positioning from Connor, Greg, Matt and Tim leading to tries by Sam, Myles, Charlie and James C. Both teams working hard. Jack nearly got through after a darting run when Daniel S put in a very good tackle, pushing Jack out into touch.
Good running with the ball from Jac, Freddie, Daniel C and William. Nearly time and Sam got hold of the ball, running zig zag along the left wing (or was it right!), they weren’t catching him today, followed closely by Miles waiting for the pass. Finally Sam was tackled and out of play. Game over. Well done. Was that Tristan still trying to get into the yellow tabard!.

Presentation to the Coaches

All the players have got together, cracked open their piggy banks and purchased a small libation for the coaches in gratitude for all their sterling efforts during the first half of this season.

After training this Sunday, the team captains, Fraser and Daniel S presented the coaches with a bottle of champagne each, followed by a chorus of ‘three cheers’ from all the players. Well done.

Tim wishes to pass on his thanks “On behalf of myself and the other coaches, thank you for the gift of champagne which was presented to us by the boys on Sunday. I can assure you that it was very gratefully received and helped to end the first half of the season on a suitable high. We look forward to the second half of the season and thank you in anticipation of your continued interest, hard work and support.”

Sunday 11th January 2009

We should have been away at Maidenhead to play against Maidenhead RFC and Windsor RFC, but they had cancelled due to the ground still been frozen and not suitable for contact rugby.

If the weather was ok then we would now train at home.

The weather has been extremely cold all week with sub zero temperatures during the nights. Saturday with a bit of snow and the ground still rock hard. Didn’t the Met Office said warmer weather arriving and 8 c max on Sunday.
Sunday morning arrives and it still looks very cold and white on the ground. Surprisingly it wasn’t so chilly when you went outside. Arriving at the club, a few squads had already cancelled their training, the Squirrels Kitchen looking extremely quite. Tim arrived hoping there would be reasonable numbers. We had the pick of the playing areas and duly set up on pitch 2 next to the clubhouse, well you can’t over do it at this time of year!. A good number turned out, 18 players. The kinders were out too, well done (or was it just a bit of madness)

Great to see Thomas back – he had a very warm vacation to OZ – playing cricket in the Sunshine. His mother Lisa confessed to even having a peak at the u10s blog whilst down under. Well that has to be furthest viewing so far. Well Thomas I can certainly see you enjoyed the run out today – maybe not!.
Sam certainly looked to be on another world today – maybe some more star jumps. Tristan’s sore throat came back this morning, must be it’s a Sunday thing!. The coaches of Tim. Alan and John warmed up the players leading onto some ball handling skills.

At one point Tim showed us all his nimble foot work and ended up doing a superb pirouette, landing on his xxx – back. Is the ground thawing out, you may ask!.
The sun was out and it was now a lovely winter’s morning.

Max had a good training session with some very good overlapping moves and the others were shown the way – well done

The training finished early and Tim warmed down the players, nearly time for the presentations.

Training Sunday 4th January 2009 - Home

A great start to the New Years training, 10am and the temperature was -4, another hard frost overnight. They must be calling the training off – most of the parents thought!. Oh no, ball handling skills today. Twenty players turned out, well done, all wrapped up and ready to blow away a few cobwebs, to much turkey and chocolate!. The ground was still white with frost when the warm up began. Tim, Adrian, John and Alan kept them moving throughout the training session. Some ‘star jumps’ were in order – did you enjoy that Sam?. They all did extremely well. Next Week is away and hopefully the ground will soften, ready for some competitive play.

Sunday 21st December 2008 - Home training

A dry chilly morning. Better than last weekend where you needed a boat to get to the clubhouse – matches cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.

Today is the last training session before Christmas. Tim arrived dressed as Santa, he looked the part especially as he had been up most of the night. Certainly outgrown that one!

Looking around the playing area there were red images everywhere as coaches got into the festive spirit. I’m sure the bar will be busy later!.

The players started to arrive, with Andy setting out the training. Shortly joined by Tim, Richard and Adrian.

Starting off with running about and the first game involving kicking the ball over the post to score points. The morning was very eventful with the players kept very busy. Cops and robbers certainly got then moving and passing well – otherwise they ended up in JAIL - What a quiet Christmas that would be! The coaches were running about too – well that lasted about 30 second - Ok then, a minute!.

Richard unwrapped sets of new red and yellow vest. The players were split into two teams for matches at the end of the training. A very entertaining and enjoyable session to watch with good support from all the parents.

Tim congratulated the players at the end of training and duty bound as ‘Santa’ a bar of chocolate for all – or more in some cases. A great first half to this season.

Sunday 7th December 2008 – Home against Farnham RFC.

Was it snow!!. No, Jack Frost had certainly been busy. It was white and very chilly outside. Thankfully there was blue sky with the morning sun shining through.

Farnham RFC were on their way, would the pitches be soft enough to play. Only time would tell.

Camberley had 20 players turning out – very well done on this very cold and frosty morning. Farnham RFC brought a good number aswell and the coaches got down to it, with the players warming up on pitch 2 in the areas brightly gleaming from the morning sunshine, allowing for matches between the squads to take place later into the training session. Farnham very well done and thanks for your visit to us.

Bob their head coach sent a text ‘Can you pass on our thanks to all the coaching team in u10s at Camberley. The Farnham boys had a great day. We all played some great rugby and considering the conditions we were very pleased to play. Good luck in the Season’.

Training Wednesday 3rd November 2008.

They are out there somewhere!!.

Only the hardy players turned out tonight as it is nearly zero degrees.
Andy, Richard and Alan are taking the training. It was more of a dry cold night than the cold and wet of the last two Sundays.

All the players were well wrapped up and they certainly cracked on with the training.

A very warm welcome to Sebastian who came along tonight to try out contact rugby at Camberley RFC. Certainly a delightful cry from his mum as he scored a try during the match at the end of training. The players moving and passing the ball well, Stuart also scoring with a diving try, he cut his lip in the process but it was all worth while.

Sunday 30th November 2008 - Home against Bracknell RFC

A ground hog day again – a very cold day at CRFC just like the week before!. Surprise Surprise it started to rain at 10am.

Tristan had his gum shield this week, so he will not be going home for an early bath like last week, shrewd or what!.

Today was training and matches against Bracknell RFC. Welcome to Camberley. Good numbers from both squads especially as the weather was awful.

The coaches started the training to keep the players moving and during the training the players seemed to be in high spirits as they were kept very busy. As the day moved forward Tim organised for two matches of 10 aside and to continually rotate the players on the sidelines. Both the Camberley teams did well against a very competitive Bracknell teams. Both Camberley teams running over a number of tries.

A big thank you for the efforts of the coaches, players and parents of both squads for this training session and hopefully you have all thawed out by now.

Sunday 23rd November - Home at CRFC

Can you believe it the Met Office weather prediction was actually right – sleet and cold. What a day.

Certainly on arriving at the Club, it was very cold and damp, thankfully it was not raining.
Daniel D was already in the warm clubhouse his hand tightly wrapped around a large mug of hot chocolate. Stuart was also there tucking into the delights of the canteen, his mum and dad certainly looked settled.

Out onto the playing field, not very welcoming - ok if you’re a polar bear.

The players started to drift over for the training, glad to be back at home?. Sam was certainly taking his time. You could hear the words - ‘I’m cold’. How many would have stayed in their cosy beds if THEY had the choice??.

Twenty-two turned out for the session – very well done. Tim, Richard, John and Tom got the players moving.

Would you ‘Adam and Eve’ it - not only was it freezing but it was now raining to (or was it sleet). Not a promising outlook. All the players cracked on, it would only be a matter of time before this bleak bleak day would chill them through. Certainly a good number of hardy parents watching for the clubhouse - Sorry I meant touchline.

The cold and wet (the worst combination) was getting the better of the players as the coaches tried their best to keep them moving. Time to call in a day - 11.15am all over – an early bath!!.

By 2pm it was bright blue skies with the sun shining through – a bit late – maybe next week – you can only hope, British weather an all.

Sunday 16th November - Away at Chobham RFC

Hopefully not as wet and muddy as last years fixture – with the forecast showing rain at some point this Sunday. Thankfully only a few miles from Camberley.

A good start – dry, but the parents still looked prepared. The players got together for some warm up drills with Tim, Andy, Richard and John, ready for the rugby ahead against Chobham and another visiting club Effingham & Leatherhead RFC.

The day started with all the players from the three clubs running off into the distance for a warm up with the Chobham Coaches. Suddenly the Camberley parents were doing the same – but in the opposite direction -must be time for a cuppa!.

Our players returned after the warm up, to join Tim and Andy for 30 minutes of rugby training before the matches against the other clubs.

The players were split into two teams ready for the games against Chobham. Both teams did very well from the off – moving the ball around well, with lots of good running.
Tim had asked all the players to concentrate on ‘Tackling’ – and this was certainly taken up – well done. Great rugby to watch and again fantastic support from the Camberley parents, by the way Richard how’s your voice?

A warm welcome to Jac as this was his first game for Camberley. Hope you enjoyed the day.

Remembrance Sunday 9th November 2008

Thankfully the weather was dry, considering the past few days had been horrible with enough rain to float the Ark. Another brilliant turn out be Camberley U10s of 28 players to this away fixture at Sutton and Epsom RFC, ‘How far –are we nearly there yet – type of day’

The coaches split the players into four groups for training rotation, all the players trained hard.

A short break at 11am for silence and a short service for this Sunday – Remembrance Sunday.

As the Camberley players were split into three teams, was anyone going to be ‘sacked’ today!!!. Certainly competitive rugby played throughout the morning.

Warm welcome to James J – as this was his first outing for CRFC.

Training Sunday 2nd November 2008

Away - Dorking RFC

A horrible day on Saturday with torrential rain in some parts, if this keeps up you will probably need a boat or two. They say Sunday will be sunny –No hope at this rate.

Certainly looked very gloomy early on Sunday morning - Camberley away at Dorking RFC.

On arrival the weather had certainly changed for the better, with blue skies in parts and a bit on Sun shining through (who would have believed it), still very soggy underfoot.
An impressive turn out from CRFC of 23 - for this away fixture (even thought it was still H/Term). Dorking also had very good numbers.

Dorking coaches started the large group going with shuttle runs and other drills – it did the trick to warm the players up.

Two pitches were set up for matches - on a slight slope, I might add. The lower pitch certainly became fun as the games got going - mud, mud and more mud. A very good run out for our players with Dorking, as always, very good and stiff opposition.

Did anyone try their Bacon butties – Superb!!, even better washed down with a cup of tea - oh, sorry should have been concentrating on the rugby!.

Training Sunday 26th October 2008

The clocks have gone back, brill another hour to lie in – you should be so lucky – it’s Sunday and you’re needed at CRFC. Opening the curtains and yes – British weather at it best – rain, rain and more rain.

The training pitch was looking rather sorry for itself, Andy first to arrive, shortly followed by Stuart (Fraser’s dad) – head down, brolly up - car parking to deal with (wait til’ I see the SQM) – Thank you Stuart for your efforts this fine morning – who’s turn will it be next? – Duties are Duties.

A good number turning up – even with the weather and half term, some will a bout of illness (that time of year again!). Andy, John and Adrian took to players out, plenty of running on the cards – keep them warm. Very good support from the parents today – brollies out.

A match at the end – one team wearing red bibs – I couldn’t tell the difference they all looked the same – brown to me (William with mud all over his face – Tristan with war stripes across his, all the player as muddy as could be). Good luck parents! – Good luck washing machines!!!

Training over – Andy thanks all the players for their hard work – the parents appreciating the efforts of all the players as well, on this wet, wet day. Training Session Wednesday 22nd October

Not to bad a night, 17 players turning out for the training session - coaches of Andy, John and Alan. Working on the contact zone and tackling each other in running moves.
This lead to four small teams playing two matches – plenty of passing, running and tackling – each player having plenty of turns to get stuck in. The hour soon over.

A few changes from Wimbledon the week before. The players certainly looked up for it, with Andy and Tim warming them up and giving them a good team talk.

Camberley v Effingham & Leatherhead. (Camberley won 7-1)

An electric start from Camberley and really playing well through out - good passing, good tackling with all the players working hard. I’m sure I didn’t even see a missed tackle. Camberley were on top of Effingham all the way. Tries from Henry, Thomas, Jake and Freddie x 4. Andy was very please – high fives all round.

Camberley did very well against Windsor and the certainly didn’t reflex the game as they again played very well. Against Farnham (more like an ‘A’ team) – seem to get the ball out to the wings quickly.

All in all a pleasure to watch – Well done to all the players and the coaches. Not too much Candy floss and coke after the game!!!.

They were up against Effingham and Leatherhead in their first pool match. Team talk from Tim and Richard - Miles and Jack were on first for a six minute burst on power in the pack. The game started with Camberle – playing well rising to the challenge – good work all round –passing, tackling, rucking and mauling. Half time Camberley 3 -1 up. Change Daniel and Charlie now on. Camberley RFC Minis Festival 2008 was held on Sunday 19th October. The Camberley U10’s would like to thank all the U10’s teams who attended for making this a great and memorable rugby event. The team were;

You would be amazed what was left around the U10’s pitch when all the teams has gone home, something out of the Generation Game!! – A pair of trainers – with expensive inner soles, an umbrella, a fold up camping chair –green in colour, eight red water bottles and a white carried (certainly looks expensive), another umbrella and numerous empty bottles.

Training Wednesday Night 15th October

Another fine night for training at Camberley RFC – until it started to drizzle. Good turnout of 23 players.

Richard commenced the warm up with some exercises, which lead to them being split into three groups as Richard, Adrian and John did a different training exercise, one being scrum training. I’m sure it was the first time in the scrum for a few of them as you could hear cries of ooh, argh and ouch as they pushed against each other.

This lead to a game at the end (I’m sure the lighting has improved – as you could actually see them across the park). Camberley have probably put more money into the meter. The play certainly looked hard going as most of the players have now had a taste of the competitive festivals in the last few weeks. Good luck to those who are chosen to represent the U10’s at the Camberley RFC Festival this weekend 19th October.

Wimbledon 'B' Festival 12th October 2008

It was very foggy on the drive up to Wimbledon RFC– On arrival the sun was shining brightly– A great day for this rugby festival.

The Camberley team started to arrive and made their way to the two pitches allocated for the U10’s.
It was just a piece of grass with no makings and on a slope – who brought the climbing rope!!!.

The coaches of Andy and Adrian were welcoming the players on arrival. Tim arrived a short while later with the tent (we might not need it – but this is the UK). Tim asked anyone for a drink – What the head coach buying the teas- WHAT ever next – Where has it all gone wrong!!!.

Freddie’s mum Joanne had brought a great spread of grub – you lucky boy – you won’t be running that fast with all that food inside you! I was offered a pick of the delicacies – politely decline, I’ll await a greasy bacon buttie later.

With the u10’s teams now gathering, most of the tents were being put up around the area allocated for our day’s play – I heard “hope we haven’t put the tent up on the pitch”. Time was moving forward towards 10am - about half an hour to the start, when a Wimbledon official appeared. He said - pointing into the distance “we’re now over there” – the pitch playing area for the U10’s had been changed – Thanks for the notice!!. .No problem for Camberley. The new tent – easily picked up and walked across the field, hope there is no unexpected gust of wind – could get exciting!. It was plonked down neatly into a corners of the new allocated area – Settled at last. The players didn’t seem to mind. Well at least this pitch was FLAT. All ready for the great day of rugby ahead.

Andy, Tim and Adrian started to coach the Camberley team of Daniel S (Captain), Clint, Connor, Freddie, Greg, Henry, Jake, James H, Stuart, Thomas and Tim

There were ten teams in the U10’s festival – divided into two leagues the teams were Camberley, Chobham, Richmond, Esher, Guildfordians, Kings, Old Reigatians, Teddington, Rosslyn Park and Wimbledon (the hosts). 6 minutes each way with 2 minutes at half time. Nine players on each side.

In Camberley’s league were Chobham, Richmond, Esher and Guildfordians.

It was great to see the Camberley players playing their hearts out in this competitive rugby competition. They all did extremely well and hopefully the three new players to the team enjoyed it to. Certainly beats tag rugby!!.

Match Report for Camberley V Guildford
This was Camberley’s first game and Andy picked the team to take on Guildfordians RFC. Thomas and Clint were subs for this first match.

Daniel the captain for Camberley made his way to the centre spot to meet the referee and the captain of Guildfordians. Guildford to start.

Camberley lined up with Daniel taking control – Henry, Tim and Stuart in the pack, all the others in a line. Guildfordians started - a good tackle by Daniel, and another Camberley tackle went in. Guildfordians pressing into the Camberley half. Knock on. Camberley scrum. Henry, Tim and Stuart ready, Greg puts in the ball. Guildfordians pushing to early - eager to play. Scrum reset.
(Daniel took control of the Camberley line of Jake and James, with Freddie and Connor on the wings.
Guildfordians get hold of the ball and with their possession pass and run to the corner – Daniel chases hard and tackles the player with the ball - but over the line and down for a try.

Re start – Henry passed to Stuart who passed to Tim – Tim had momentum moving towards the Guildfordians players, tackle by Guildfordians - ruck with Camberley pressing, turn over to Guildfordians – who pass along line and run into Camberley half – Henry with a good tackle - down and into a ruck. Scrum to Camberley – who drove forward, scrum turned again. Scrum reset. Out and possession to Guildfordians running towards Camberley’s try line – missed tackle – Tim put in a good tackle-hanging on but momentum took the Guildfordian player over the line – Try.

Re start. Good run by Tim who was tackled – Turn over – Guildfordians running with ball – Tackle again by Camberley – Long pass over the top, ball falls to the ground next to a Guildfordian player, picked up and through the gap – Try

Re start. Camberley pushing into Guildfordians half – turnover Guildford moving forwards – good tackles by Camberley. Guildford passing well - another long ball - again it falls at the feet of a Guildfordian player (Where’s the luck when you need it!!) . Good work by Camberley and a ruck formed. Scrum to Guildfordians. Out and Guildfordians quick passing along their line – Over try line and ball touched down – Try and Half time.

Andy rallied the team together ready for the second half.

Stuart and Henry with the ball – start and tackle by Guildfordians – Ruck formed – Camberley pushing well – ball not out – Greg waiting and he tried to grab hold – Referees whistle and scrum to Camberley. Now well into Guildfordians half. Great Scrum - Greg with the ball – dived and passed out to Daniel – a good run and tackle – ruck formed and turn over - Guildfordians with the ball – darting run which found the gap to the left side – Connor gave chase but over for a try.

Re start. Camberley into Guildfordians half and pushing forward well, tackles by Guildfordians - maul both teams pushing hard and onto the floor, Guildfordians with the ball now pushing into Camberley’s line. Henry down – Referee didn’t notice – calls from the sideline – Guildfordians continue - forward again through and over – Try.
(shame the ref didn’t stop the game).

Restart – Thomas with the ball pressing into Guildfordians half. Tim and Greg followed passing along the Camberley line – out of play.
Line out to Guildfordians – ball in their possession good tackles. Ball out again. Line out to Camberley. Stuart with the ball and a good run into Guildfordians line and through – Guildfordians tackling well – ruck – good pushing by Camberley – ruck and Guildfordians gain possession – good tackle by Thomas ball out. Game over.

Andy and Tim grouped the players together. Andy spoke to them and gave a very positive team talk, especially as it was their first game – The players went through the game and areas for improvements.

Hazy, Lazzzy, Sundaaaay, afternooooon – I’ll have to stop singing to many praises!!!. Andy and Tim worked on a few moves with the boys ready for the next game against Esher – Guildfordians match now all but forgotten.

As Thomas, Daniel and a couple of other rested – Thomas said “It was a bit unfair – I was scratched by one of the girls” (playing for Guildfordians). I believe I said to Thomas “Oh Well” (thinking – live and learn, you’re got it all to come!!!)

Camberley’s next game against Esher was about to start. The sun still beating down (sun hat, cream and shades needed). Tim and Stuart rested (They both had had a good first game).

It was like watching a completely different team – their efforts were first class – must have suddenly dawned on them all, that this was a competitive day of rugby. Thomas with the ball tightly in his grasp headed straight into the Esher half pushing forward towards their try line, good work all round. Esher unable to get the ball out. Good tackles by Connor, James and Jake in succession - most of the play with Camberley – a good darting run by Freddie across Esher’s defensive line.

The festival was a great success for Camberley – the players got better and better as each game went by – certainly something to build on for the start of this rugby season – and next week at the Camberley festival.

Both Tim and Andy were extremely pleased with the team’s performance throughout this festival.

Another reasonable night for training this Wednesday– no rain, still cold but not as chilly as last week – not surprising as I was wearing a warm coat. Good turn out of 20 boys again – Jo took the boys out for the warm up session. When Andy arrived the players were split into to groups. Andy, Tim and Alan put them through their paces ready for the Wimbledon Festival this Sunday. The others were training with Richard with the help of Andrew (James H dad) holding the pads – certainly didn’t sign up for that, but thanks. A training match to finish the training session was good to watch.

Tim and Andy have now put their heads together and the team selection for Wimbledon has been made.

Cobham ‘A’ Festival Sunday 6th October 2008

You can tell it was a Sunday Rugby Festival day, as the heavens had opened. On arriving at Cobham RFC – cars were being directed to park on the grassed area by The Fairmile Arms – Will certainly be interesting on leaving - anyone with a 4 wheel drive!! (Certainly for some of the old school they had different ideas).

Arriving at the U10’s pitch it was pretty bare compared to the other pitches, where tents were being erected. John arrived with his gazebo – what a welcome sight that was. It took a matter of minutes to put up and a decision was made to attach the guy ropes – only the Met office had predicted Wet and WINDY!!. Now we were under cover. In the distance you could see a packhorse carrying a large object – it was Richard struggling with the new tent (wouldn’t you dragging it 300m or so –have a try yourself sometime). From the practice the week before the tent was up in no time at all.

The team of players arrived, Ben, Blake, Charlie A, Daniel D, Fraser, George, Jack, Miles, Max, Rupert, Sam and William. The coaches started the training –all wrapped up in waterproofs – Jo helping with the all important warm up. Surprisingly most of the parents were inspecting the inside of the new tent. I don’t know what had happened but the players had placed all their bits and bobs neatly around the inside of the tent – maybe this is what the parents were actually looking at – or was it the miserable weather.

There were six teams in the U10’s festival – Cobham, Camberley, Sutton & Epsom, Brighton, Old Reedonians and Richmond. The matches would be 6 minutes each way with 2 minutes at half time. Nine players on each side.

In our group, Pool 1, we had been drawn with Sutton & Epson and Cobham.

Camberley v Cobham. Camberley lost 4 tries to 0.

Camberley were now through to the Festival Semi Final against a very good side in Brighton.

Camberley v Brighton. Brighton won by 4 tries to 0.

Tim got the boys together in the tent and warmly congratulated them on all their efforts, as all the coaches had done throughout the days play. Thankfully the rain had eased up.

It was a cracking effort by Camberley, so VERY WELL DONE, especially considering the size of some of the other teams players – which certainly helped in the bulk of their pack. It was great to see the quality of rugby played at the U10’s with some very comprehensive passing and re-cycling of the ball.

Did anyone see who took our tent? It must have weighed a ton.

Match Report for Camberley V Sutton & Epsom

Camberley first game was about to get underway against Sutton, who on previous occasions had always given us a good run.

The game started well, Sutton with the ball - Camberley putting in some good tackles, Sutton spilling the ball. Fraser collected it and Camberley pressed forward. Turnover and Sutton now in possession passing well along their line, couple of missed tackles and Sutton were close to our try line. Sutton again passed well along the line, finding the gap, Try – Sutton one up.

From the re- start Camberley into Suttons half, ball spilled (not surprising as it was very wet). Rupert put in a very good tackle followed up by a tackle from Ben. Sutton AGAIN passing well, good tackles by Camberley. Sutton with the ball in their own half –tackle by Ben, ball spilled again and turned over, Blake picks it up and with a darting run, with pressure and tackles from Sutton he drove on (there was a pass on to William) but Blake’s momentum took him over 1-1.

Restart – Sutton pushed into the Camberely half. Scrum to Camberley. Out to Fraser with a very good run through. Play near to the Sutton try line, Sutton had the ball on their touch line and dropped – Daniel dived onto it and Try 2-1. The ref blew for half time.

Camberley started – turnover to Sutton who were passing and pressing up to Camberley’s try line. Scrum to Sutton - ball out – Sutton’s possession and moved it forward looking dangerous – forward pass. Pressure off. Scrum to Camberley – ball out and turnover to Sutton, but a knock on. Scrum to Camberley, passing well George got the ball and made a very good run up the right wing. Scrum to Camberely into the Sutton half. Rupert good pass to Fraser with another good pressing run, William now with the ball dart to Sutton’s corner, some good tackles that lead to a turnover of the ball. Sutton’s scrum. Now raining very hard. Ball still well into Suttons half - maul - Rupert pressed forward with the ball pass to Charlie and a drive over the line - try number three (3-1).

Sutton with the ball from the restart – Sam put in a good tackle. Sutton pushing along the wing – knock on. Daniel off Miles on and into the Scrum – near to Camberleys’ line. Ball out into Sutton’s possession – pushing forward –darting run and over for a try, 3-2. Refs final whistle game over – Very good game by both teams in the difficult playing conditions. Result 3-2 to Camberley (not the slow start that can sometimes be expected!!!).

Into the tent for the well deserved rest and team talk ready for the next game.

Wednesday Night Training - 1st October 2008

The nights are certainly drawing in as the coaches turned up get the Wednesday evening training session started. The flood lighting from the clubhouse was already on - illuminating the training pitch.
A good number of players turned out – 20 in total, even thought it was a very cold night. As the players started their warm up and training they didn’t seem to notice, for the parents the drop in temperature was very noticeable. Certainly spotted a few parents frequenting the bar for a more cosy vantage point of the training session below.
Richard, John and Alan got the players working hard during training and finished with a match. Some good plays with Fraser, Thomas and George running over the try line. Good luck for those attending the Cobham A Festival.

Camberley RFC U10’s 2008 – 2009 Season

Great to see that the new rugby season is underway for the U10’s at Camberley RFC and certainly looking forward to an exciting rugby season ahead.

Most of the boys and girls of the U10’s squad have turned out for the training sessions on both the Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The last two Sunday’s have seen fantastic weather – long may it last – certainly for the parents at least!!.

The U10’s have a good squad size of over 30, many who have played for Camberley RFC for a few years. The squad would like to welcome the new players who have joined us this season, Ben, James, Harry, Freddie, Stuart, Olivia and Tate. New players are always welcome to come along and join in. The excellent coaches are lead by Head Coach Tim and his merry band of men (Coaching staff) Andy, Richard, Adrian, John and Alan. They are presently developing the U10’s squad for the forthcoming rugby festivals at Cobham RFC, Wimbledon RFC and Camberley RFC. Certainly great events to see the players in action.

The squad manager for this season is David, who has taken over from Denise – in the club house the other day another manager said
“that will be a hard act to follow” I don’t quite know what that means, maybe she was a juggler or had a party piece or something!!!. Seriously a huge thanks to Denise for all her hard work and efforts for this squad over the last few years.

Another thanks to the invaluable Jo for her continued involvement with first aid for the U10’s and organising the stock for the first aid kit
– There have certainly been enough knocks so far keeping her very busy. I’m sure the only thing left to do is paint a large capital ‘H’ on the ground – Get the emulsion and paintbrushes out.

Training Session at CRFU on Sunday 28th September.

What a beautiful morning once the mist had lifted, the sun beaming down on the training pitch. Tim had brought down the new tent. Still in its box ready to be erected. (Many thanks to Alan for the donation to purchase this for the U10’s players - or is it for the coaches – or parents? – let’s see how cold it gets shall we!!).
Tim and David cracked on and started to put the tent up – in the distance, the race was on as the U9’s were putting up their new tent to. The U9’s were leading, but Tim and David thought they had sussed it out until Tim said “I think it’s inside out”. This was the case so back to the drawing board. (More like a sketch from Laurel and Hardy or was it Abbott and Costello – Do you remember that kids?).
The U9’s tent was up and looking proud, ours was still in a heap on the floor. A thanks to the U9’s for later helping us after a few laughs –at our expense. The players and parents were starting to arrive – Adrian walked into the tent and said “great, enough room for a mezzanine” – well I’ll leave that to him – yes - and whilst you’re at it don’t forget the bar!!!.

A great training session today – Thank you coaches – we also had a new arrival, so welcome to Matt- Hope you enjoyed your day with us.

Gordon offered his services to help take the tent down with the coaches – it was down in a flash and packet away neatly in its shiny new nylon bag. Job well done – as they all looked down at the bag – I certainly saw a few pats on the back!!, surely everything was in the tent bag for the next time - only for Daniel to spot the instructions blowing across the rugby field. Could have been a disaster!! – What no instructions - What no U9’s helpers.

Will that be the last mention of the Tent!!!. After training Daniel and Sam certainly had lots of enjoyment from the cardboard box the tent came in – before they put it into the recycling bin.
